The University of Rhode Island College of Engineering’s Innovations showcases the college’s diverse community of scholars undertaking 21st-century research and learning.

Arun Shukla, An Outstanding 30 Years

Professor Arun Shukla arrived in United States from India with little more than 20 pounds of clothes and 20 pounds of textbooks. Since then he has built an international reputation for studying how things break. And on campus his teaching inspires the next generation of engineers to, well, keep it together.

Engineering Plays Key Role in President’s Vision

URI President David M. Dooley has defined his Transformational Vision for the University, including creating an all-encompassing learning environment, fostering additional research, providing students a global education and embraces different cultures. The College of Engineering plays a significant and important role.

Professor Sparks Powerful Research

Meet electrical engineering Professor Haibo He, who endeavors to build an intuitive computer that can tackle great challenges such as saving our antiquated power grid. For his work, the Providence Business News called him Innovator of the Year and the National Science Foundation awarded him a significant grant.

Student Takes Toy Design Around the World

From Pawtucket to Hong Kong, Hasbro intern and University of Rhode Island student Alissa McKechnie is becoming the global engineer. Now in China, McKechnie will help global toymaker Hasbro launch its latest Nerf Blaster.

At the College & Other News

Software developed by a URI professor saves lives of lost sailors, Professor Geoff Bothun wins a $400,000 grant, a URI robot crushes the competition and more. And a team of URI students help a woman with cerebral palsy start a greeting card company.
