What is the Engineering Living and Learning Community?
The College of Engineering Living and Learning Community (ELLC) offers a dynamic and engaging living environment that promotes personal growth and academic success with a strong support network. Freshman engineering students live together in three campus residence halls, directly benefiting from peer support and programming designed especially for them. The ELLC started in 2007 and is a highly acclaimed model for student success on campus – and - is something that you definitely want to be a part of!
The engineering RAMs and the ELLC programs provide support for all freshman engineering students. It does not matter if you live in another residence hall on campus or if commute to campus - the ELLC is there for you - so be sure to participate regularly and take advantage of the various resources, programs, and integrated support network that will help you succeed as a URI engineering student.

Meet Rachel one of our RAMs for the 2012-2013 academic year
Two RAMs live in each of our three ELLC residence halls (Bressler, Merrow, and Tucker Halls). These upperclass engineering students serve as peer mentors for freshmen living in ELLC residence halls as well as those freshman residing in other residence halls or who live off campus and commute. The RAMs provide academic support to underclassmen and are their direct connection with the College of Engineering. Find out more about your 2012-2013 RAMs.
Joining the Engineering Living and Learning Community
Incoming freshmen who have been admitted with engineering as their major (including undeclared engineering) and request on-campus housing are automatically eligible for assignment to an ELLC residence hall.
However, please note that placement in our ELLC residence halls is not guaranteed, and all rooms are assigned based on the date of receipt of housing deposit and space availability. Therefore, we encourage you to submit your housing deposit early. All first year on-campus residence hall room assignments are done in July of each year.

How to Become an ELLC Resident Academic Mentor (RAM)
ELLC Resident Academic Mentors (RAMs) are trained engineering students (sophomores and above) who live in our ELLC residence hall communities. They are actively engaged academic leaders who help freshman engineering students succeed. To learn more about becoming an ELLC RAM during the next academic year, please contact Ms. Kristine Buss, College of Engineering Liaison, at kbuss@uri.edu or +1.401.874.5890.
Applications for RAM positions for the next academic year are accepted at the beginning of each spring semester, and are available through the Office of Housing and Residential Life.
